The Salt (In the Wounds) of the Earth | Matthew 5:13–20

What does it mean when Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth”?

Salt can heal.

Salt can hurt.

In this Lenten sermon, we wrestle with a difficult and deeply personal question: How are we called to be salt in a wounded world—especially when we ourselves are wounded?

Drawing from Matthew 5:13–20, this message explores the tension between truth and love, strength and vulnerability, and what it means to stay near the wound long enough to discover that God is already there. From Gandhi’s Salt March to the cross of Christ, we consider how Jesus fulfills the law not by avoiding pain, but by entering it.

If you are walking through illness, uncertainty, grief, or simply feeling the weight of the world’s fractures, this message is for you.

Key Theme:

When we stay near the wound, we may find God is already there waiting.
